- Our story
More than a house, a project with soul.
Casa da Lavandeira, with over three hundred years of history, was acquired by Celestino Augusto Portela on 28 May 1921 - a family legacy that continues to this day.
One hundred years later, on 28 May 2021, the founder's grandson acquired the entire property, continuing this story and starting a new chapter. Today, the house has been transformed into a haven where art, design and tranquillity coexist in harmony.
In honour of Celestino Martins Portela - father and mentor - whose life was marked by a deep passion for gastronomy, wine, writing, painting and sculpture, the Zen & Art concept was born.
A space where every detail reflects this cultural heritage and artistic sensibility.
The rooms were designed by renowned personalities in their fields, each one designed to convey the intimacy, personal taste and identity of each creator.
More than just places to stay, they are unique environments that offer a distinctive and sophisticated experience.

ART, IDENTITY AND SERENITY.
Sculptures, local cultural references and reading spaces are all part of the experience. Zen & Art isn't just local accommodation in Santa Maria da Feira - it's a lived space. If you're looking to book a room, you're in the right place.
9 ROOMS
MAKE THE HOUSE
With nine different rooms, the Zen & Art includes five designer rooms created in collaboration with personalities from the Portuguese arts - a sculptor, a painter, a writer, a chef and a winemaker.
The experience also includes two Japanese-inspired rooms, a blue room and a cabana room. A charming house in Santa Maria da Feira, boutique hotel style.
